The crowding along the harbor promenade has been compounded since 9/11 by the large tents used for security clearance for ferries to Ellis and Liberty Islands.

Aaron Weisinger, 26, proposed marriage to Erica Breder, 25, in the Statue of Liberty’s crown. (Ms. Breder said yes.) The crown was opened to the public for the first time since 9/11.For the first time since 9/11, the public had a chance to climb to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

For the first time since the attacks of Sept. 11, the public had a chance to climb to the crown of the statue. But first, they had to endure red tape and stiff security.
