Before killing himself, Lt. Michael W. Pigott left a note next to pictures of his children explaining his rationale: He did not want his children to see him in handcuffs.

The U.S. Marshal said that investigators now consider the case of Samuel Israel III, whose car was found abandoned on a New York bridge, to be solely a fugitive investigation.
